Everything you need to know about Laser Toning

Pigmentation has become a very common problem these days. There are several reasons for pigmentation to occur; it can be due to photodamage, acne, melasma, injuries, etc. Everybody wants beautiful and clean skin. Other skin imperfections like texture, free radical damage, pollution damage, hormone changes, and even genetics. When the skin becomes dehydrated and dry, when it has enlarged pores it’s usually because of inadequate care.

This is where laser toning comes in. Laser toning is an effective treatment that helps in treating problems like hyperpigmentation, melasma, acne marks, dark spots, sun spots, fine lines, freckles, uneven skin tone, etc. Laser toning provides prominent results in treating such problems. It makes the skin bright, plump, and even-toned. Laser toning requires several sessions to see results.

Laser toning requires the use of a Q-switched laser which is used for all pigment-related problems. The laser present in a Q-switched targets a pigment called “melanin” present in the skin. It reduces the intensity of melanin thereby lightening the skin and giving the skin an even skin tone. It breaks down the pigment in the skin at the sub-dermal level which is effective in treating hyperpigmentation and melasma.  A Q-switched laser uses a low fluence laser beam on the targeted area of the skin which can treat hyperpigmentation and signs of aging. The laser is used at a specific wavelength which then breaks down melanin in the hyperpigmented area which then evens the skin tone. This also stimulates the production of collagen which improves the texture of the skin.

Benefits of laser toning:

  • It works on all skin types
  • Not at all time consuming
  • Promotes skin regeneration
  • Reduces wrinkles
  • Reduces acne scars
  • Evens out skin tone
  • Reduces freckles
  • It is an instant and easy procedure
  • Does not require downtime
  • Effective, painless, and comfortable procedure
  • Rejuvenates skin to give a brighter look
  • Treats photodamage
  • Enlarged pores are reduced by stimulating collagen

Why acne from adolescence continues into adulthood?

Acne develops when the pores on your skin get clogged. The type of acne it produces depends on what clogs those pores. It can be blocked by oil, bacteria, dead skin cells, and dirt. Why does acne develop during the teenage years? One of the biggest reasons is the change in hormones. A certain hormone called androgens increases during adolescence which increases the size of the oil glands. This results in the production of more oil which will clog the pores.

The oil glands are called sebaceous glands and they are present right under the surface of the skin with the hair follicles. These glands secrete oil to keep the skin from drying out. But in the case of acne, it produces too much oil which clogs the pore along with the hair follicle which results in acne. Oil glands get active once puberty starts, which is why teenagers get acne.

But acne can be particularly frustrating for adults. Some adults continue to get acne from their teen years and others might develop acne well into their 40s. This is known as “adult-onset acne”. One of the most common causes of adult acne is hormonal imbalance. It is more common in women. Women experience fluctuating hormones during periods, pregnancy, birth pills, and menopause. Other contributing factors that can cause acne would be stress, genetics, hair and skin care products a person uses, or side effects of medications.

There are several myths about acne. It is one of the most common skin conditions and the most poorly understood problem. Some of the common myths include:

  • Poor diet causes acne:

Eating a healthy balanced meal is important for a person’s health but there has been no research that backs poor diet causing acne.

  • Poor hygiene and dirty skin:

The biological mechanisms that trigger acne always happen beneath the skin not on the surface therefore, hygiene has nothing to do with triggering acne. Keeping it clean has nothing to do with acne washing your face often might exacerbate the condition.

  • Squeezing your acne is the best way to get rid of it:

No. It will make the acne worse and you will also end up with acne scars. Therefore, never squeeze your acne.

There are different types of acne- whiteheads and blackheads are known as comedones and are the most common type. Then there is inflammatory acne known as papules, pustules, nodules, and cysts. These conditions will most likely leave scars on your skin.

Acne

Acne, scientifically known as acne vulgaris, is a condition in which dead skin skills and oil from the sebaceous glands clog the hair follicles. Typically acne includes blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and oily skin. It commonly occurs during puberty; people of all races and ages can get acne. Acne can continue into adulthood. It is essential to keep the pores clean. There are several causes of acne- overproduction of oil, build-up of dead skin cells in the pores, bacteria, hormonal imbalance, genetics, medications, and age. Certain conditions may aggravate acne- like diet, stress, environmental irritants, pollutants, humidity, and scrubbing your skin too hard.

Hyperpigmentation

Melanin is the pigment responsible for the color of the skin. The dark patches that form over the skin are called pigmentation. There are several types of pigmentation:

Melasma: these are brown or blue-gray patches that occur on your skin and often are freckle-like. It often appears during pregnancy and commonly on the face and stomach.

Sunspots: characterized by small flat dark areas of the skin. They appear on areas of the skin that receive maximum exposure to the sun. They are also known as liver spots and solar lentigines.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation: this happens due to excess production of melanin or abnormal melanin deposits in the skin and causes inflammation.

Loose and dull skin

Avataar has an array of treatments that help in dealing with problems like loose and dull skin. Our advanced laser facials work to give intense skin renewal, and exfoliation, stimulate collagen, reduce pigmentation, provide instant radiance, tighten dilated pores and loose skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and reverse sun damage. the treatments work to give you healthy glowing skin.

Sun Damage

What people essentially call a ‘tan’ is actually, sun damage that happens due to sun exposure. Sometimes exposure to the sun can cause the skin to produce melanin irregularly which may cause pigmentation in certain areas of the skin. Years of exposure to the sun have a significant impact on the skin, resulting in early aging, skin cancer, and a variety of other skin abnormalities. Most early skin aging happens due to sun exposure to UV light. Numerous skin changes that were formerly attributed to aging, like easy bruising, are the result of repeated sun exposure.

Damaged skin

Sunlight is not the only source of skin deterioration. Skin damage may result from behaviors like smoking. Blood vessels may become constricted as a result of nicotine consumption, which raises blood pressure and causes skin cells to absorb less oxygen. Collagen and elastin are also damaged by cigarette smoke. Additionally, the skin surrounding the mouth and eyes may droop, and smoking increases the skin’s melanin, which results in pigmentation.

Your skin may acquire dormant skin problems or they may flare up as a result of stress and anxiety. Increased amounts of stress hormones can cause chronic stress, which is bad for the skin.

What is Bikini Rejuvenation?

Do you also have a dark bikini line and inner thighs as compared to your skin color?

A darker pubic area is completely normal for everyone, this darkening is called hyperpigmentation. The bikini line and inner thighs are the most common places for hyperpigmentation.

Some of the causes of dark skin around the pubic area include:

Hair removal creams/ Shaving: You most likely shave, wax, or sugar your legs because you want to remove your hair, which can result in hyperpigmentation and ingrown hair scarring.

Hormone: The melanocytes in the skin are specific cells that produce melanin. These melanocytes are particularly hormone-sensitive in the vaginal region. In reaction to hormonal changes, the vaginal area gradually darkens over time. This may occur during puberty, pregnancy, or natural aging.

Friction and inflammation: The potential of melanocyte hyperactivity rise with an increase in friction. Friction can cause melanocyte cells to produce more melanin, leading to pigmentation around the pubic area. The skin may get inflamed as a result of friction, and this inflammation may then result in hyperpigmentation after the fact. Compared to other parts of the body, the skin surrounding the inner thighs and bikini area is thinner and more sensitive. This is why even the slightest amount of friction can aggravate these places and make them darker.

Fungal infection: Fungal infections are also a cause of dark pubic skin. Both men and women experience this as a skin condition.

Hyperpigmentation in the pubic area is normal but it doesn’t mean you can’t rid of it

Avataar offers a combination of lasers and peels which are 100% safe and act only upon the topmost layer of the skin, giving you a cleaner and whitened look without causing any internal harm.

How to get rid of the dark pubic area?

  1. Laser Hair Reduction- Hair reduction is the first step towards a clean bikini. Over multiple sessions, Bikini loses up to 90-95% of its hair growth
  2. Q-switched laser treatment- Lasers are used to break the pigmentation and stimulate the process of new cell generation so that the renewed skin is lighter in tone
  3. Chemical peel treatments- Chemical peels are used to further aid in the lightening of the skin. The peel treatment is also completely painless and goes very well with the above-mentioned treatments

What is Underarm Rejuvenation?

Your underarms should generally be of the same skin as the rest of your body but sometimes those are of a darker tone. While dark underarms are not a cause for concern, they are definitely a cause for embarrassment for a lot of people, especially for people who love to wear sleeveless and tank tops.

The darkening of the skin happens due to a condition called acanthosis nigricans which basically causes the skin to thicken and become dark on folds all over the body. The most common areas that become dark are the underarms, back of the neck, groin, elbows, and knees.

The pigment cells on your skin are known as melanocytes which are responsible for causing the darkening of the skin. AN can be genetic but sometimes hair removal can cause it. Repeated shaving or plucking can stimulate the production of excess melanocytes which can cause the underarm to darken.

There are many reasons that can cause the darkening of underarms some of the causes are diseases like obesity, diabetes, hormone imbalances, and side effects of medications.
But darkened underarms are not a permanent condition. You can get rid of them with specific treatments and wear the tank top you always wanted to flaunt.

  • Laser Hair Reduction:

One of the common causes of pigmented underarms is the constant waxing and shaving which causes the skin to produce more melanocytes. You can solve that problem immediately by choosing an alternative for hair removal. Get permanent laser hair reduction, no more waxing, and shaving. Laser hair reduction saves money and does not cause any pain or darkening of the skin

  • Chemical peel treatments:

Chemical peels like retinol can work on the darkened skin and remove the topmost layer of the skin giving way to the new skin underneath which will be brighter and smoother. This typically takes time and a few sessions to see results and it also depends on the individual’s skin and how pigmented their skin is.

  • Laser treatments and dermabrasion:

Laser treatments and dermabrasion can help in the resurfacing of the skin which removes the dead skin cells from the topmost layer of the skin and helps in the regeneration of new brighter and smoother skin.

Everything you need to know about chemical peels

What are chemical peels?

A chemical peel is a procedure in which a mild chemical solution is applied to the topmost layer of the skin. It visibly reduces fine lines and wrinkles. Specific concentrations of carefully formulated chemical peels are used based on your skin type. These peels are generally plant-based extracts that exfoliate the dead skin layer of the skin; it removes dirt and clear clogged pores, dead skin, and excess oil from the pores. Once this layer of the skin is removed the skin that is regenerated is smoother, brighter, and less wrinkled than the old skin. This procedure also effectively clears mild to moderate acne.

Why do you need chemical peels?

Chemical peels are used to treat certain skin conditions but in general, they can be used to improve the appearance, texture, and tone of the skin.

  • It removes dead skin and stimulates the basal layer which increases the cell renewal rate
  • Easy exfoliation which boosts your skin
  • Improves the skin tone and texture by lightening and brightening the skin
  • Tightens and firms the skin
  • Reduces enlarged pores
  • Reduces fine lines
  • Promotes overall healthy skin
  • Reduces oil secretion and cleanses pores deeply

The process of chemical peel treatment

The first step in the chemical peel treatment is to clean the face with a cleanser after which petroleum jelly is applied to the most sensitive areas of the skin to protect and prevent any irritation in these areas. After this, a peel (depending on your skin concern) is applied. Depending on the peel you might experience irritation. After this, a neutralizing solution is applied to remove the peel. The post-treatment care includes applying sunscreen to protect your skin from any kind of sun damage.

Recovery time after applying the chemical peel will vary depending on the type and strength of the peel that has been used. Immediately after the skin may feel tight and it may turn red. The use of gentle cleansers, moisturizers, and sunscreen is very important. Sun exposure should be avoided when the skin is peeling. The chemical peel treatment stings depending on the type of chemical peel that has been used. Light peels usually involve lactic acid and fruit acids and they cause some redness, irritation, stinging, and crusting of the skin; all of this will eventually give way to clean, smooth and glowing skin.

Before getting a chemical peel please consult an expert to treat any skin conditions. It is important to educate yourself before going for any kind of treatment. The results of a superficial chemical peel can last up to a year if maintained with good skincare products and sunscreen whereas the results of deep peels can last for a few years!

Salicylic Peel: Benefits, effects, and uses

Salicylic acid is an ingredient used in many over-the-counter medications. It works effectively as an exfoliant that removes dead skin cells and works on conditions like acne, psoriasis, and warts, and even reduces the signs of aging. The salicylic peel comes under the class of Beta-hydroxy acids (BHA).

Salicylic acid benefits the skin in many ways; it affects the skin’s complexion and evens the overall texture. Salicylic acid peel treatments deeply exfoliate the surface layers of the skin.
Salicylic peels are fairly gentle so they can be used for people who are unable to use other stronger peels. It is a safe and well-tolerated peel that is suitable for all skin types.

Some of the benefits of a salicylic peel include:

  1. Smooth and bright skin: it makes the skin softer and smoother; it also brightens the complexion and evens the skin’s texture by reducing large pores.
  2. Comedolytic properties: salicylic peel cleans out clogged pores and dead skin cells that cause acne.
  3. Anti-inflammatory: it has anti-inflammatory properties that lower inflammation, redness, and swelling caused by acne. It also helps in treating acne.
  4. Antifungal: it can help treat problems caused by fungi, like fungal acne.
  5. Desmolytic properties: salicylic peel breaks down the connective tissue holding the cells in the topmost layer, making it easy for the dead skin layer to shed off.
  6. Controls oil production: the natural oil secreted by our skin is called sebum. Sometimes the skin produces excess sebum that leads to acne breakouts. The salicylic peel reduces the production of sebum which controls acne breakouts.
  7. Reduces hyperpigmentation: salicylic peel improves problems like melasma and sunspots. Once the superficial layer is removed the skin is refreshed and rejuvenated.

What are the benefits of LED therapy in Laser Facials?

Light emitting diode commonly known as LED can be used in facials. Light-based treatment helps in reducing wrinkles and acne. LEDs nowadays are used in everyday items as well as in medical devices targeting skin problems. They can treat skin problems like wound healing, acne, wrinkles, and more. It also treats internal problems like arthritis or other joint or muscle pain. These treatments are safe for all skin types.

An LED mask comes with a spectrum of light with different wavelengths that penetrate the skin to make changes at the molecular level. Each spectrum of light that produces different colors targets different conditions. For example, red light is designed to increase circulation and collagen production, therefore reducing fine lines and wrinkles. The blue light targets the acne-causing bacteria, actively killing them and stopping the acne cycle. These are the two most common colors used but other colors like yellow are used to reduce redness and green is used to reduce pigmentation.

There are several benefits of LED in treatments:

  • Increased collagen production

Collagen is known to be the most abundant protein in our body. Collagen improves the skin’s health; it replaces what is naturally lost with aging. It helps to smooth out wrinkles and increases the elasticity of the skin which makes it look younger.

  • Treats acne effectively

The LED blue can actively kill the acne-causing bacteria and arrest the acne cycle preventing it from appearing again. It also gets rid of oily greasy skin.

  • Promotes cell regeneration

Your skin is exposed to a lot of elements in the environment that cause skin damage. We can’t escape these elements but we can aid in the process of healing. LED masks promote the regeneration of cells that replace this damaged skin.

  • Beautiful radiant skin

It minimizes inflammation and provides relief for several inflammatory diseases like eczema, psoriasis, etc.

Although they don’t replace your regular skin-care routine, LED light masks and devices work best when utilized to encourage collagen formation and eliminate the germs that cause acne outbreaks. To ensure your safety while treating your skin, follow the instructions and take the required safety precautions before using them, such as wearing eye protection.
